Material: Gilt bronze with copper consecration plate.

A strong and energetic casting of the female Dharma Protector Palden Lhamo – venerated throughout the Himalayas, Tibet and Mongolia . She rides a donkey; standing in the middle of an ocean of blood. This piece is a fine example of early 19^th century casting and is complete with what is possibly a more recent consecration plate and with an additional consecration cavity on statue verso.

With one face and two hands, she holds skullcup in the left held to the heart. . In altrar settings and in thangkas there is above the head a peacock canopy. She is always a protector and is also used for divination rituals. Most Tibetan Schools have some form of this deity. It is commonly found on Gelugpa and Sakya paintings. This practice was adopted early on as the special protector for the Dalai Lamas and the Namgyal College of the Tse Potala Palace .

In altar settings she would be accompanied by here retinue of attendants both with the heads of mythical animals. They are two different deities with different histories and personalities. 'The Queen of the Weapon Army' is the wrathful aspect of the very peaceful goddess Sarasvati (Yang Chenma).
